Motorcycle Accidents
The rules of the road apply equally to cars, trucks and motorcycles. However, most of the motorcycle collisions we know of occurred because drivers of other vehicles failed to notice motorcycles on the road and violated their duties toward them. It happens all too often. When such collisions occur it is the motorcyclist and his or her passenger who suffer the worst injuries.
As of 2007 (the most recent data published by the Iowa Department of Transportation)
there were over 150,000 registered motorcycles in Iowa and almost 250,000 drivers with Class M licenses. In 2008 there were 1,057 motorcycle crashes reported to the IDOT. Most of the crashes causing injury or fatality involved motorcyclists between 45 and 54 years old, with 34 to 44 year olds next. These statistics show that it is often persons supporting and raising families who are the ones injured in motorcycle collisions. When their rights are violated by inattentive drivers, the injuries or deaths that result can devastate entire families.
If you or a loved one are injured in a motorcycle crash, you need a lawyer experienced not only in traffic laws and preparing cases but also the special rules that apply to motorcycle operators, the types of injuries that frequently result from such collisions and the attitudes likely to be encountered from insurance adjusters or even jurors. We have lawyers with that range of experience who are available to help.
