BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Nate Willems was born and raised in Anamosa, and graduated from Anamosa High School in 1997. He received his B.S.F.S. from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in International Politics in 2001
Nate Willems worked on a variety of Democratic campaigns in Iowa both during and after college. He was a field organizer for Leonard Boswell’s re-election in 1998 and managed two Iowa House races for the Truman Fund in 2000. In 2001, Nate returned to Iowa to work on the campaigns of John Norris and Dr. Julie Thomas; he also served as legislative clerk for Rep. Ro Foege. Nate was a regional director for Howard Dean’s campaign in the Iowa Caucuses.
In 2004, Nate enrolled at the University of Iowa College of Law and completed his degree in May, 2007. He spent a summer working in the law office of Jim Larew, and one summer in the legal department of IUOE Local 49. Nate was a self-employed attorney for three years prior to joining Rush & Nicholson, practicing primarily in the areas of labor and employment law. Nate was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2008 and re-elected in 2010
